ANALYSIS

You’ve seen much-improved tries in her last two from #6 Xtended Streak (9-2), who after showing little in two one-turn outings has clearly benefited from the added ground of these two-turn contests. She has good early speed and figures likely to flaunt it once again, the major concern being what’s plagued her in prior contests: the inability to hang on for the entire race. Two back she gave up a five-length lead in the lane, and last time lost a two-length advantage. She gets a new rider today in Fredy Peltroche, who will try to ration her speed… We’re looking for a much better effort from #1 Afire (20-1). She showed nothing and was eased on debut, but trainer Javier Contreras adds blinkers today. What piques our curiosity is the decision to remain at the special weight level after a first-out stinker. Perhaps he’s seeing something from her she didn’t show first time out… #4 Far More (5-2) is another who’s benefited from stretching out and just missed against similar in last… It feels like #8 Jubaslilballerina (9-5) may be moving in the wrong direction. After finishing a close-up second in her first five starts, she was still second but a dozen lengths back in her sixth. Then last out, she finished a well-beaten sixth. She has some talent, but she’s been the beaten favorite in five straight…

Race 7

2-7-5-3

Top choice #2 Noballstwostrikes (5-1) got off to a lunging start last out against similar when finishing third as the favorite. But he’s run three straight good races at this three-turn trip and can lead or stalk. Two back he won at this level… Rider Arnaldo Bocachica rode our top choice last out but tonight lands on #7 Frog Town (6-1). This one had a very troubled trip in last and only was able to stretch his legs in the final yards when it was too late. A cleaner trip would aid the cause, though it’s also worth noting this will be his first route race (and coming around three turns no less) and that his only two wins both came at six furlongs… C R’s Mandate (3-1) won nicely last out against a couple of these, including our top choice, and may be rounding back into the form he flashed last fall when winning the WVBC Onion Juice and then just missing in the Funkhouser Memorial behind Muad’dib…
