Delaware Park picks and analysis: October 20, 2023
Live racing at Delaware Park kicks off May 24 and runs through late October.
Once again this year, we will have Delaware Park picks and analysis for every day of live racing at the venerable track. Today’s card features eight races, and first post is 12:30 EDT.
Today’s carryovers: None
Race #1 Picks: 2-3-6-5
In this $6250 claiming race for fillies and mares at six furlongs, #2 Parisian Vibe (3-1) has not run well since being claimed three back. Now she is dropping to a level where she should be able to compete and win. She had a sharp workout a week ago and we have her on top today. #3 Between Dreams (8-5) has won six of her twelve lifetime races. She just missed by a head in last and looks like a top contender at against this group. #6 Gleaming Brutality (2-1) has won her last two and fits well. If she can maintain her form she will be in the mix.
Race #2 Picks: 3-6-2-5
In this $38,000 maiden special race for two-year-olds at six furlongs, #3 Night Out (9-5) ran well at this level in August running a 65 speed figure. He has had a series of workouts since that race and he should be ready for a big effort today. We think he will prevail. #6 Collected Special (5-2) ran well in a New York-bred maiden special Race at Saratoga. He has a long string of workouts since that race and he fits well here. #2 Notorious (8-1) has a series of five furlong works and that will help his endurance today. He could run a big race and be in the mx.
Race #3 Picks: 1-3-5-4
In this $5000 N2Y race for fillies and mares at 5 ½ furlongs, #1Insightful (7-2) is coming back to Delaware after running second in a four-furlong sprint at Timonium. This mare is pretty consistent and seldom runs a bad race. We think she can come out on top today. #3Lady Jean (5-2) just missed at Finger Lakes in an $11,000 claiming race in last. Now adding blinkers and taking a class drop and looks to be in good position to contend for the win. #5 Jack’s Lilly (6-1) is a closer who has been posting decent Beyer figures at Charles Town and Penn National. She will be running late and passing tired horses.

Race #4 Picks: 8-6-7-5
In this $6250 N2L claiming race at one mile and 70 yards, #8Keranos (6-1) has been dropping down the claiming ladder and has found a level where he can be competitive. His last two races at Delaware Park were solid. He has a good shot at getting his second win today. #6Sustenance (6-1) won a maiden race last time with a 62 speed figure. This three-year-old is improving and should be in the mix today. #7Last Second Louie (3-1) has a couple decent races on turf and if he can translate those onto dirt, he could be a contender.
Race #5 Picks: 9-2-1-8
In this $25,000 claiming race at one mile, #9 My Man Vito (7-2) has some good recent races but has not been able to win since June. He has been in several key races where other horses won next time out so he has been facing good competition. He should go off at decent odds and we have him on top today. #2 Loose Goose (8-1) is coming from Parx where he was running well for Jamie Ness. He didn’t fire in the slop last time, but his speed figures look competitive and he ran second here in a race taken off the turf in August. A contender. #1 Stacks of Silver (5-2) has not been running well this year but ran some big races last year, and if he can return to that form he will be in the mix.
Joe’s Notes
- Ten-pound apprentice Andres Chavez got the first win of his career in start number 11 when he guided Anonymously to a win in Thursday’s fourth race for trainer Jose Corrales…
- Trainer Chelsey Moysey won twice and now has 17 wins at the meet, good for fourth in the standings…
Race #6 Picks: 2-3-1-6
In this optional claiming/starter allowance race at six furlongs, there is so much early speed that we are going with a horse that can win from off the pace. #2 First Rule (8-1) has been claimed three times in a row. He has run well in each of those races with one win. This horse has the ability to win from off the pace, and we think this race will set up well for him. #3 Money Song (3-1) won three straight and then was away for two months before running a poor race in last try. He has a couple of good workouts since that race and we think he will improve today. #1 Wild Behavior (2-1) likes to get out of the gate quick and let the others chase. He has one win and two place finishes in three starts at Delaware and should be in the mix.
Race #7 Picks: 1-4-7-3
In this optional claiming/first-level allowance race at 1 1/16 miles, #1 Coach Adams (4-1) almost always puts in a game effort. He only has one win at Delaware in twelve tries, but he ran good races at Monmouth and Oaklawn this year. We have him on top. #4 Flay Out Flying (2-1) is a horse for the course with seven wins and two seconds in thirteen starts at Delaware Park. This seven-year-old has lost some of his luster because he has not won a race this year, but he still figures to be in the mix. #7 Exit Right (6-1) has three wins this year, including a win at Delaware. He fits well here and could surprise today.
Race #8 Picks: 1-3-4-6
In this optional claiming/starter allowance race, #1 Great Faces (2-1) had two recent sharp races and is in good form. He ran an 82 speed figure in last and should win today if he can match that race. #3 Girolamo’s Attack (3-1) also has two good recent races, including a 9 ¾-length score here at Delaware. He may have finally found a level where he can compete. #4 I Am That I Am (8-1) has a couple of good races at Delaware and may have a slight class advantage over this group. One to consider.
