Live racing at Delaware Park kicks off May 24 and runs through late October.
Once again this year, we will have Delaware Park picks and analysis for every day of live racing at the venerable track. Today’s card features eight races, and first post is 12:30 EDT.
Today’s carryovers: None
Race #1 Picks: 3-2-7-1
In this $6250 maiden race at one mile and 70 yards, #3 Telecast (6-1) will be making his first start since July of 2022 when he was running in Florida. He has a nice workout line and Diane Morici has won at 16% in 19 tries for a $2.67 ROI on horses that have been away for more than 180 days. #2 Unxpected Tiger (4-1) just missed last time when he closed to miss by a neck. He finished ahead of several other of today’s foes in that race and should be competitive in this race. #7 New Jersey Heist (3-1) will be making his first start for Andy Simoff. He has been improving and should be in the mix today.
Race #2 Picks: 5-2-6-4
In this $6250 N2L claiming race for fillies and mares at one mile, #5 South Pacific (9-5) experimented on the turf last time and did not find it to her liking. Now moving back to dirt where she had two decent races recently. This looks like a good setup for her, and we think she has a shot to win. #2 Incontrovertible (5-2) has been struggling but is dropping to bottom-level claimers today and may compete well against these. #6 My Jo Jo (3-1) is a deep closer who may get up for a minor piece of the pie.
Race #3 Picks: 7-5-2-6
In this $20,000 maiden claiming race for two-year-olds at 5 ½ furlongs, #7 Wesley Thomas (2-1) has run second his last three races. He seems to be improving and has a good chance of leaving the maiden ranks today. #5 Castlecove Spirit (4-1) was sharp in his last race, running a 53 speed figure.Adding blinkers today and he has a shot to win if he can improve in his third race. #2 Minny Speightster (3-1) showed some speed last time and should improve in his third race.

Race #4 Picks: 2-3-5-1
In this $6250 starter allowance at 5 ½ furlongs, #2 Champion by Design (8-1) has been running on the synthetic surface at Presque Isle Downs and will be making his first start at Delaware. This horse is in very good form and isn’t facing any monsters today. He has won on dirt before and we have him on top. #3 First Rule (2-1) has been running well this year. He will be making his second start for Kerri Raven and looks like a top contender today. #5 Sneakiness (3-1) has been running well and will be making his first start for Wayne Potts. Potts wins at 28% in 32 attempts for a $2.07 ROI on first race after a claim.
Race #5 Picks: 7-9-6-5
In this $6250 maiden claiming race for fillies and mares at six furlongs, #7 Divine Promise (3-1) has shown some speed in several of her races and the drop to $6250 might put her in the position to win. She may be able to get an early lead with this group and carry it to the finish line. #9 Pink Sunset (7-2) did show some life when she dropped to this claiming level on the turf in last. If she can repeat that race on the dirt she will be in the mix. #6 S K Moon (8-1) is coming from Parx where she passed some tiring horses in last. One to consider.
Joe’s Notes
- With a three-win day, Jaime Rodriguez inched closer to the riding title and holds a six-win (63-57) lead over Kevin Gomez, who won two…
- Gomez scored on Runaway Jack in the open allowance feature. Trained by Mac Robertson, Runaway Jack entered the meet a maiden but has won four straight, tying him with Copper Tax and Luckbealadytonight for the most wins by a horse at the meet…
Race #6 Picks: 9-1-10-5
In this $6250 claiming race for fillies and mares at six furlongs, #9 Big Ambition (7-2) has been competitive against better and is now dropping to bottom level claimers. This filly is inconsistent, but if she has one of her better races, she should be able to handle this group. #1 Soul of the Beast (5-2) has won three in a row at Presque Isle Downs and is in excellent form. If she can translate that form from synthetic to dirt she will be a threat today. #10 Sansa Ariel (4-1) is another horse in good form who will be a threat if she runs her best.
Race #7 Picks: 7-6-4-2
In this allowance/optional claiming race for fillies and mares at one mile, #7 Hazardous Humor (3-1) is a very consistent filly who just missed by a neck at this level last time out. She looks well placed here and we have her on top. #6 Carroll Girl (5-2) is a horse for the course with four wins in five tries at Delaware. She is having an excellent year with four wins in nine attempts and looks like a top contender. #4 Hashtag Lucky (8-1) will likely get the lead and has a chance of stealing the race if she isn’t pressured. One to consider.
Race #8 Picks: 5-6-3-4
In this optional claiming/starter allowance race for fillies and mares at six furlongs, #5 Willful Desire (4-1) has a nice win in New York in her most recent race, running a 73 speed figure in the slop. Had a good race when winning at Laurel on a fast track three back. She fits well here and we have her on top today. #6 Starship Defiant (2-1) is David Jacobson’s other trainee in this race. She has faced tough competition at Monmouth and Saratoga and looks like a top contender today. #3 Breezy Connection (8-1) had some decent races in Maryland and fit well with this group.
