Fasig-Tipton mixed sale set for Tuesday afternoon
Bill Reightler and David Wade figure to be busy Tuesday afternoon.
The two consignors are offering 102 of the 187 hips on offer in the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale, which kicks off at 11:00 a.m. in Timonium. The sale includes everything from weanlings to broodmares.
Reightler, as agent, is scheduled to sell 57 hips at Tuesday’s sale. Wade, operating for Northview Stallion Station as agent, will offer 45. Other larger consignments include those of Marshall Silverman (27 hips) and Chanceland Farm (12).
Last year’s sale saw 172 hips sold, while 56 went through the ring but did not find a new home. The sale’s gross was more than $3.2 million, and the average was $18,800. The median was $10,000.
Some other facts and figs:
Maryland’s the one: Ninety of the 187 hips on offer – nearly half – were foaled in Maryland. Kentucky is next with 37.

Racing’s future today: There are 44 in-foal broodmares on offer, and three stallions having covered four each. Those three stallions are Social Inclusion, who previously stood in Pennsylvania and now is in Florida; Golden Lad, standing at Maryland’s Northview Stallion Station; and Engage, who is also at Northview.
Color me unsurprised: Bay is the color of choice, as 88 hips are bay. The least common color is gray or roan, which is represented by 17 hips.
Hot dam: Thirteen mares have more than one offspring in the sale. Tops in that regard: the Super Saver mare Edit and Simplify, who is the dam of three in the sale
Sire power: With so many Maryland-breds in the sale, it’s no great surprise that Maryland sires also lead the way. In fact, the top five sires by hips at this sale are all Maryland-based, led by Divining Rod, with 10 in, and Uncle Lino, with eight. Long River, Irish War Cry, and Hoppertunity all are represented by six hips. Divining Rod stands at Country Life Farm, while Long River is at Anchor and Hope; the others are at Northview.
