Picks and analysis for this evening’s card from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races:
- DATE: June 1, 2024
- RACES ON CARD: 8
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:30 p.m.
RACE 1
1. Great Call | Gets blinkers on after improved try when 32-1 |
5. Bear Hunt | Two tries against winners were wanting |
6. Renegade Serenade | Has faced better |
RACE 2
2. Unxpected Tiger | Formful sort has been in the exacta four of six; may be able to sit third and pounce when ready |
4. Marcus Junius | Second three straight at N3L level |
5. Fowl Nation | Perhaps the most talented of these but voided claim in last followed by year break and drop in price give pause |
RACE 3
8. Elevated Game | Won this race last out in front-running fashion but doesn’t need the lead; outer post affords rider Hernandez the chance to eyeball rivals and make his decision |
6. Zapruder | Makes third start off the bench; faced tougher in last on turf |
5. Covert Kat | Competed against similar last season, makes season bow here; shows a good turf work |

RACE 4
6. Principia | Speedy sort scored nicely two back and ran well enough in last |
7. Rowsie Express | Likely fave probably best in here but has lost at this level five straight in Maryland |
1. Bella Paloma | Decent efforts haven’t been good enough to win at this level |
RACE 5
8. Hoku | Useful return to action in March and working fast since; turf form from last year best of these |
6. The King Cheek | 2021 Sir Barton winner on main track has some good tries on the lawn |
3. Samyaza | Two-time allowance winner on turf got a bit of a break after a couple off-color efforts for leading trainer Ness |
Racing Notes
- Trainer Graham Motion won twice Thursday on the turf with maiden-breaker Marian Cross in the third and allowance winner Inchon in the seventh. For good measure, he ran one-two in the latter with favored Twist ‘n Twirl finishing second…
- The late Pick 4 paid $4,363.70 for 50 cents after wins by runners who were 17-1, 9-1, and 13-1…
- Bug rider Ederik Robles won twice…
RACE 6
1. Ben’s Hero | Couple prior efforts would win here; off since October, trainer Klesaris 15% off similar breaks; connections protect him on return to action; rider Cedeno lands here |
5. Gambe Forte | Speedy sort has zipped to early lead and faltered in both prior starts |
2. Carentan | What do you do with a horse you like a little who runs a stinker on debut? Geld him, add blinkers, and find easier company; the bonus: they can do that here and still protect him |
RACE 7
4. Paper Mansion | Owns gaudy six-race win streak, including against better, and looks to be controlling speed |
9. Clockstrikestwelve | Credible return to action against better and makes second off the bench; if #4 pressed, this is most likely beneficiary |
3. Gold Rush Kizzie | Appears outclassed by top pair but should be running late |
RACE 8
4. Peach Nectar | Looked ready to fold tent last time but stuck with it |
5. City Humor | Speed of the speed might have the lightbulb on at last |
3. Etretat | Consistent efforts versus similar at Tampa |
