Picks and analysis for this evening’s card from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races:

RACE 1

1. Happy Ride	Arrives with two straight wins and lands in a good spot to make it three; picks up bug rider Maldonado, slugging it out for meet supremacy; trainer Hardesty 2-for-8 first off the claim
5. Afleet Diva	Speedy sort will have to overcome other early types; trainer Jones 7% after trainer switch
2. Raise Your Game	Connex liked this Violence mare enough to protect her last time out in first in six months; could get favorable setup

RACE 2

1. Blaze On	Didn’t beat much but drew away nicely in last; added ground a question mark
3. Go Margie Go	Awkward, bobbling start cost this one any shot last out; has better efforts to run back to
6. Ninetyninecarats	Speedy sort’s two-turn tries are just fine; first time in the Carrasco barn

RACE 3 – ON THE TURF

9. Boardwalk Fries	Good outing versus similar in last; makes second start off the bench
4. Enchantment	Speedy sort will try (and likely fail) to take ’em all the way; could hang on for a share
8. Instparty	Bred top and bottom for turf, gets on it for first time

3. Mo Tough	We’ll try to beat the chalk (#6) with this formful sort, who’s been one-two five of fix, including four straight with rider Cruz; beat similar last out
1. Lantern’s Candy	Has better form to run back to; first in Nazario barn
6. Vodkatini	Always handled like a horse with some talent, but this feels like a sudden drop; wins on best

RACE 5 – ON THE TURF

6. Takethefifth	Good try in last when second at 11-1; four rivals from that race have finished one-two next out
5. Bold d’Oro	If he can carry dirt form to turf, he likely wins here; but two sibs a combined 0-for-15 on the lawn and Bolt d’Oro a middling (or worse) turf sire
1. Clinton	Bred to be any kind, and one of two sibs won first out; likely to thrive going two turns; Sweezey 2-for-33 with firsters in special weight company (but a positive ROI)

Jockeys Julio Hernandez and Jaime Rodriguez each won twice on the Wednesday card
New York trainers won two of the three turf races, with Christophe Clement sending out first-timer Summer Soldier (by Girvin) to win a maiden event by a nose and Shug McGaughey winning the allowance feature with Belle of Rights…

3. Old Bay	Middle move before emptying out over speed-favoring strip in last; second start off the bench; keeps top local pilot JRod
2. By the Glass	Decent effort in last and makes third off a break
6. Lovely Charm	MTH shipper on the improve

RACE 7 – ON THE TURF

2. Understudy Kitty	Bid to the lead before tiring late over boggy Pimlico turf course Preakness day; two from that contest filled out the exacta in recent LRL allowance
9. Naptown	Rough outing in Murphy; synthetic form suggests better possible
5. Elevated Game	Beat a good group in last including one who’d already won at this level

RACE 8

5. Look Sharp	Two good tries since the claim
7. Sir Mi Tolee	Best efforts have come going short
2. Yahoo Omar	Speed burner will look to clear early, hang on late
