Charles Town picks and analysis: June 15, 2024
Picks and analysis for this evening’s card from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races:
- DATE: June 15, 2024
- RACES ON CARD: 8
- CARRYOVERS: Jackpot Pick 6, $46,956
RACE 1
2. Never Walk Alone | Might be able to sneak off to the lead and take ’em all the way |
3. Mouse to Mouse | Willing try in debut despite being steadied nearing the quarter pole |
1. Honey Please | Only one-turn try wasn’t terrible versus special weight foes |
RACE 2
5. Moon Fall | Retreated readily in last versus much better but any of prior three makes him a winner here; half-brother to stakes winners Door Buster, The Sky Is Falling |
2. One Candy Castle | Bit of a clunker in last but has better efforts to run back to |
7. Doctor Pardo | Just missed in last when gacking up a big lead late |
RACE 3
4. Sam Wheat | Ought to be nearest pursuer to likely early leader Change Your Luck and reel that one in when ready; trainer Farrior 4-for-12 with last-out maiden winners in middle claiming company at CT |
8. Hot Fudge Sonde | Four-time winner has kept better company |
2. Strollinginthewind | Late runner will hope for a lively pace |
RACE 4
1. Jlodiamond | Likely speed of the speed looks a cut above these; winner of last Overnight Pow Wow returned to win again last night |
4. Slewing | Might get a pace to run at and figures to be running best of all late |
2. Mama Marge | First start since easy allowance win in February |
RACE 5
9. Juba Bound | Four-time winner has won at this level previously and didn’t run poorly last out versus better |
1. Triple Bad | Beat similar two back; makes third start off the bench |
2. Free Drop Bach | Won only local try; connections liked him enough to protect in first try of the season and trainer Dunham 30/89 at CT last five years |
RACE 6
8. I’m Friesan | In a moderate field, let’s take a swing with the first-timer; sire Friesan Fire does pretty well with older firsters, and dam Royal Fireworks was a 5-time winner; trainer Contreras 16% with firsters in MSW company with a positive ROI |
5. Whiskey Wild | Morning line fave was throttled by claimers at Churchill in last, and any of three or four in that heat would have been favored here; none from that race have made much impact since, though, with all seven to run back being beaten and only one finishing in the money; makes first start in Farrior barn |
1. Collected Dreams | Most experienced of the group has been second three straight versus similar |
RACE 7 – It’s Only Money S.
7. Nico | The fractions likely will be torrid, and this Contreras trainee will be lurking a few lengths back and hoping to pounce |
4. Duncan Idaho | Full brother near-millionaire Muad’dib and multiple graded winner Late Night Pow Wow has become an ultra-hard-hitting one-turn runner; has shown the ability to set blazing fractions, take pressure, and stay on — will need that in here |
3. Penguin Power | Veteran has won on WVBC night five straight years, should get a good setup to make noise in this one |
RACE 8
8. Tiz Vinno | Got a freshening after some decent tries at LRL but returned with a clunker; class relief a big plus here |
7. Dice Arm | One of two in here who made last starts at Churchill; not a bad try three back when third against $20k MCL sorts at Keeneland; first in Keller barn |
2. Pass the Cash | Couldn’t go with winner Vino Dolce in last but well clear of the rest, and that rival bested allowance foes next out |
