Inglis Digital readies for first US sale
A pair of black type-earning mares will highlight the still-growing catalog of the inaugural Inglis Digital USA July Sale.
The early entries for the July Sale include multiple stakes winner Lucky Girl (IRE) and Canadian champion Hazelbrook, who is offered in-foal to Triple Crown winner and red-hot sire Justify.
“We are excited to feature these two impressive entries in our inaugural sale as Inglis Digital USA,” said CEO Liza Hendriks. “The global demand for both buying and selling has been substantial, highlighting the international appeal of these two mares. They are the first of many high-quality listings to come, and we look forward to showcasing more in our July Sale and future sales.”
Lucky Girl (IRE), a 5-year-old daughter of champion sire Exceed and Excel (AUS) is a three-time stakes winner offered as a racing or broodmare prospect.
After beginning her career in her native Ireland, Lucky Girl (IRE) has tallied victories in the Lady of Shamrock Stakes, China Doll Stakes, and Osunitas Stakes, and she has finished fourth in the Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) and Monrovia Stakes (G3). She is nominated to defend her title in this year’s Osunitas Stakes on July 21 at Del Mar.
Stakes-winning daughters of global pillar Exceed and Excel will be in increasingly short supply, following his pensioning from stud duty earlier this year. Over the past three years, Exceed and Excel has sired six stakes-winning daughters in Australia, led by the three-time Group 1 winner September Run and a trio of seven-figure yearling purchases who lived up to their billing on the racetrack.
Exceed and Excel’s North American Grade 1 winners have included Breeders’ Cup winners Outstrip and Mischief Magic, along with Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (G1) winner Mawj. His global reach as a broodmare sire includes Group 1 winners Anthony Van Dyck, Ten Sovereigns, and Vandeek.
“We are excited to announce the forthcoming sale of an exceptional filly, celebrated for her impressive record of three stakes wins and a remarkable mile time of 1:34,” said James Keogh of consignor Grovendale. “Sired by the influential Exceed and Excel, renowned for his significant impact on broodmare pedigrees, she represents an unparalleled opportunity in both racing and breeding circles.”
Hazelbrook, Canada’s champion female sprinter of 2022, is offered in-foal for the first time to Justify on an April 8 cover.
A 6-year-old daughter of Bayern, Hazelbrook earned her Sovereign Award on the strength of a campaign that featured victories in the Hendrie Stakes (G3), Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3) and Sweet Briar Too Stakes (L).
Hazelbrook is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Zuzanna. Her extended family includes Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner Royal Academy and Grade 2 winner Terlingua, the dam of record-setting sire Storm Cat.
Justify has rocketed up the charts following a stellar 2023 Breeders’ Cup, where he was represented by Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner and champion 2-year-old female Just F Y I, along with Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) winner Hard to Justify. They were joined that season by Grade 1 winners Arabian Lion and Aspen Grove. His range has continued to expand in 2024 with City of Troy, winner of the Epsom Derby (G1).
“Hazelbrook is a very commercial physical, balanced, and strong. Looking deeper into her race record, you will see that she had tremendous raw ability; she was a champion sprinter. She ran a 5 1/2 Ragozin, which would match many G1 horses,” said Tom Ryan. “Breeding a mare of her ability to a stallion with no limitations in Justify made perfect sense to me. Speed and versatility crossed with the high cruising speed that Justify possessed and is reproducing globally.”
Entries for the Inglis Digital USA July Sale remain open through July 8. Bidding will open Friday, July 12 at 2 p.m. Eastern, and it will close Wednesday, July 17 at 2 p.m. Eastern at www.inglisdigitalusa.com
