Acting upon the recommendation of the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission (DTRC) veterinarians and stewards, Delaware Park has cancelled the live racing card scheduled for tomorrow due to the excessive heat index forecasted by the National Weather Service to be above 105º for the region. 

The entire live racing card scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 10, will be transferred to Thursday, July 11.

It is the second time in three race cards that Delaware has been forced to postpone. The track moved its Delaware Oaks card from Saturday, July 6, to Monday, July 8 because of the heat forecast, although in the event, it appears that the heat index did not breach the 105 barrier.

For Wednesday, the National Weather Service has issued an “excessive heat warning” for the area, with the heat index predicted to reach as much as 110.
