Delaware Park picks and analysis: July 13, 2024
Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card from Delaware Park:
- DATE: July 13, 2024, 12:30 p.m. first post
- RACES ON CARD: 8
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:30 p.m.
RACE 1
4. Bold d’Oro | Strong effort on the main track in first in over a year; follow-up on turf wasn’t great but returns here to preferred surface |
6. Pilote Comete | Late-running sort gets blinkers on in search of a bit more early gas; last out was credible behind two next-out winners, with winner Sunny Breeze now 2-for-2 and looking like a potential stakes horse |
3. Khoolzan | Lasix on in first of the season and first for a new barn |
- Strongest favorite: First Pearl (R3, 3-2 ML)
- Longest shot: Perfect Edge (R4, 6-1)
RACE 2
6. Shell Belle | Seems like a vote of confidence to move this one back up the ladder off a win; has speed but doesn’t need the lead and drawn well outside others with early foot |
5. Music Amore | Fire sale in progress on a runner who won for 20k two back and ran third in a two-other-than last |
3. Divine Exchange | Waters a little too deep last time |
RACE 3
5. First Pearl | Didn’t miss by much despite troubled debut outing against better at LRL; in a good spot to graduate and trainer Capuano 7-for-14 with 2yo making their second start in maiden company after having been in the money on debut |
6. Golden Philly | Sire Unified is above average with 2yo firsters |
4. Miss Mavis | Inexpensive yearling purchase |

RACE 4
1. Perfect Edge | No chance he was beating 1-20 Freedom Road in last, especially after being hung out wide on the turn; look for a better one here on the dropdown |
5. Tiz Lord | Gelded and gets Lasix on for first start in productive Arriagada barn; like that he protects this runner |
7. Sir Mi Tolee | Big effort in last when winning a speed duel but unable to contain closer |
RACE 5 – OFF THE TURF
11. Belle of the South | Willing debut in a race that’s produced a next out winner |
4. Love Music | Working like gangbuster on synthetic at Turfway and dam won at first asking; sire Maclean’s Music has a strong record with 2yo debut runners |
7. Software | Mostly working over synthetic but note good move June 28 on main track; all three siblings to race are stakes winners |
3. Mindful Angel | Two of five siblings to race won first out; note zippy three-furlong work July 8 |
RACING NOTES
- Jaime Rodriguez had a riding hat trick on the Thursday card (which was supposed to be the Wednesday card). All three were favorites, and all were for leading trainer Jamie Ness…
- Favorites swept the card, winning all eight races, at odds ranging from 1-5 to 2.40-1…
RACE 6
1. Intrepid’s Legacy | Half-brother to two stakes winners sure has taken to Delaware; showed improved speed in latest while drawing away to dominant win |
4. Zatip | Trainer Arriagada 3-for-7 when claiming horses and going turf to dirt; fits with these if he brings his grass form |
5. Dutch Mills | No trouble with two-life company in last in well separated field; only runner here with three wins |
RACE 7 – OFF THE TURF
8. Divine Grace | Beat similar two back in most recent dirt try, and runner-up knocked down allowance condition in next |
10. Makemebelieve | Has some back efforts that would win here |
1. Mo Tough | Run well last couple |
RACE 8
7. Olive Kat | Has faced much better in 2024 tries |
5. Sheza Nasty Girl | Good form now but gotta believe the pace will be more demanding here than in that contest |
6. Fancy Princess | Return to more manageable company a plus |
