Delaware Park picks and analysis: July 20, 2024
Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card from Delaware Park:
- DATE: july 20, 2024, 12:30 p.m. first post
- RACES ON CARD: 8
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:30 p.m.
RACE 1
5. Burton Way | Tactical sort well-drawn outside in return to preferred surface; gets hot-riding buy Maldonado up |
3. Amani’s Tiger | Returns to main track and lands in congenial spot for leading trainer |
2. Admit Nothing | Speed figs say he’s a contender but makes first start since last September; trainer Mancilla 4-for-25 off long layoffs |
RACE 2
2. Funny Lady | Godolphin runner is by outstanding win-early sire Twirling Candy and a half to a runner who won on debut; trainer Stidham hits at a 20% clip with 2yo firsters locally; solid work tab |
3. Caprice | Trainer Lynch has long had success with juveniles, and this Golden Lad filly has been firing morning bullets |
4. Majestic Bay | $210k two-year-old purchase is bred to be any kind |
RACE 3
1. Gracie Diamond | Lone prior turf try wasn’t bad at all, and she’s a better horse now than she was then; not gonna sweat the Rehoboth too much, as it came behind millionaire Alva Starr |
7. Marian Cross | Broke her maiden nicely last out over the surface; the conditions of the race put her at somewhat of a disadvantage, as they permit runners who have already won at the level to do so again |
9. Anaita | Two-for-two on the turf, and that she’s won both leading and closing a good sign, because she’ll almost certainly have to chase speedy #10 Above the Limit |
11. Princess Runaway | Should be a major contender if drawing in |

RACE 4
1. Crooked Dreams | Fire sale in progress on this one; trainer Arriagada 29% when dropping horses precipitously |
7. Russian Hammer | Just missed against similar last out |
6. Wow Wish | One of several here from June 29 heat; best efforts contend |
RACE 5
5. Magnolia Wind | Defeated better but was DQed last November; makes third start off the bench and most recent turf try, vs NY-breds at the Spa, came in a race that’s produced two next-out winners |
2. Sweet Summer Love | Decent turf try in latest and gets hot-riding bug in the irons |
6. Little Hot Mess | Credible tries versus similar |
11. I Love Venezuela | If drawing in, bred to thrive on the green stuff |
RACE 6
2. Mr Mac Quhae | Patiently handled runner thrashed lesser last out |
1. Deep Faith | Like to see trainer come right back in starter company after dismal outing in last; gets reunited with Maldonado, who won two straight aboard him |
5. Ekati’s Verve | Better efforts contend here; will be running at the end |
RACE 7
4. King Kontie | Turf debut was sharp, and though follow-up, in the Rosie’s, wasn’t great, it did come after pressing No Nay Mets, who then finished fourth as the favorite in G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint; second off a lengthy break |
6. Fun Notion | Cuts back to sprint here after disappointing two-turn try; earlier form good enough to win |
9. Wora | We’ve chased this one in his first two local starts; has beaten better |
RACE 8
2. Afleet Diva | Should head straight to the front in a race light on speed |
6. Cynergy’s Electra | Won’t be 1-20 in this spot; couldn’t get by loose leader in last after that one set very slow pace |
1. One Tough Dame | Beat better last out; was claimed but claim was voided by the state vet |
