RACE 1: MAIDEN CLAIMING $20,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 5 1/2 FURLONGS (GRASS)
1-4-6-2
#1 Holonui (9-5) ran a big race in his grass debut, pressing the pace and wearing down the early leaders, but ultimately losing to a longshot winner who came up the rail for the victory. he should get another nice trip from just off the pace. #4 Kinda Fonda Wonda (8-1) is on the other side of the coin, in that he’s likely to do his best running late. He made decent ground last out behind Holonui, and now gets a rider switch to Jeiron Barbosa while adding blinkers. #6 Rocky’s Adventure (20-1) ran a strong brisnet figure of 69 last out in his second start off a brief layoff, and looks for a rebound after a flat effort last out. He also gets a positive jockey switch; in his case, to Jean Alvelo.
RACE 2: CLAIMING $20,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 MILE
1-7-3-4
#1 Jay (8-1) has been beaten double-digit lengths in his last two races, but he was also facing much better rivals in those races. He broke his maiden going away in mid-April with a sharp 81, then improved to an 85 with a hard-charging 1 1/2-length defeat in his next try. He’s had some good workouts since that flat last race, and looked primed for an improved effort. #7 Penny Loafer (7-2) finished second in his most recent dirt try, hanging in there despite a wide trip behind a loose leader. He adds blinkers here, and should be heard from late as long as no one sneaks away early. #3 Cavendish (12-1) broke his maiden at going away at sixth asking lain his last dirt start, and checked out of contention on grass in his last try. He’s one of the lighter-raced horses in here, and we may not have seen his best.
RACE 3: MAIDEN CLAIMING $45,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)
13-9-7-6
#13 Battlefield Park (5-2) was well-bet in his first start off an 18-month layoff last out, and ran well to get second behind impressive victor Mission North, who returned to finish fourth against first-level foes at Aqueduct next out. This one ran an 81 that day, which his higher than the ceiling of most of these, and he certainly has room to grow second off a long break. #9 Stow On the Wold (8-1) also ran a big race off the bench in his most recent, earning an 84 first off a ten-month layoff, and first time in the Keri Brion barn. He came from well off the pace that day, but showed early foot in numerous grass tries in New York last year. We’ll see if he’s sent for speed today. #7 Cap’n Dusty (3-1) ran an 80 in each of his last two starts, rallying to just miss second to Battlefield Park two races ago. Jaime Rodriguez gets aboard for the first time.
RACE 4: MAIDEN CLAIMING $30,000, 2-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES, 6 FURLONGS
4-5-6-3
#4 Blessed Candy (6-5) got involved in a tussle with the odds-on choice in her debut, and finished just 1 1/4 lengths behind her, not a bad effort for her first outing. She ran a 60 that day, one of two in here to run in the 60s in her career. The other, #5 Anotherhope (7-5), came from off the pace in that race and edged Blessed Candy by a nose foe fifth. She adds blinkers and gets Gina Robb’s go-to rider, Xavier Perez, aboard for the first time. #6 Map to the Moon (8-1) improved slightly at second asking last out, losing second by only three lengths behind a runaway winner, and should hang around for a share even if the top two sprint away.
RACE 5: CLAIMING $20,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 MILE (GRASS)
6-1-5-7
This race features amateur jockeys. #6 Mike the Bomb (2-1) has shown speed and faded in both of his grass tries, with figures in the mid/upper 70s both times. he was pressed on the pace throughout last out and just missed, and might find himself in an easier pace scenario today. #1 La Crema (5-1) is one of two in here who has not lost against winners, having broken her maiden at ninth asking second off the layoff last out at Delaware Park. She’s a bit inconsistent, but at her best, she has a great late kick. #5 Awesome Strike (5-2) has run at least a 76 in each of his three starts this year, the only one in the field to hit that mark three times in a row, and has just missed in his last two starts against similar with his
RACE 6: MAIDEN CLAIMING $20,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 6 FURLONGS
6-7-3-2
We’ll try another Carlos Mancilla trainee here. #6 Car Ride (5-2) returns to dirt after a flat try on grass last out. He’s run at least a 75 three times in four dirt starts; the only time he didn’t, he dealt with severe traffic trouble. Only two of his rivals have run that fast at any point this year, meaning that if Car Ride runs his usual race, he’ll be very tough beat. #7 Lucky Prince (9-2) has finished behind Car Ride twice, running in the low/mid-70s both times. He’s lightly-raced and has good early speed. Look for him to try to work a trip from just off the pace on the outside. #3 Beach Cowboy (2-1) improved sharply at second asking at Indianapolis last out, and now drops in for a tag for first time for Mike Stidham.
RACE 7: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)
3-1-5-4
#3 Yatta (8-5) ran a career-best 81 when a hard-charging third in the Jimmy Durante Stakes last out to cap her 2-year-old season. She’s worked well for Graham Motion since returning to the worktab in May, and adds Lasix for her 3-year-old debut. She has the highest ceiling in this field and should handle these without much trouble, as a stepping stone for better next out. #1 Planet Clare (3-1) pressed eventual winner Distorted d’Oro in her grass debut last out, and held second with a respectable 81. she might find herself on the lead in a race without a ton of early speed. #5 Juniper Juice (6-1) has improved with each start this year, and made a bold bid to lose by less than a length in her first start at this level last out.
RACE 8: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 MILE
1-5-2-4
#1 Ginger Girl (9-5) is the only one in the race to run at least an 83 in each of her last three starts. she made decent ground from just off a slow pace and finished fourth against slightly tougher than she’ll see here. she’s a perfect 2-for-2 at a mile. #5 Mavilus (5-2) has started to round back into form since a decline earlier this year, and does her best work on this track. she’ll also take advantage of the one-turn mile stretch. #2 Rowsie Express (8-5) has finished second at this level three times in a row, and is bound to rate near the pace and hang around for a share once again.
RACE 9: CLAIMING $45,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 5 1/2 FURLONGS (GRASS)
8-7-2-4
#8 Art of Courage (2-1) went gate-to-wire to break his maiden at Aqueduct last out, and looks fast enough to clear to the rail and the lead from the outside post. #7 Happy Jaunt (7-5) drops tot his level for the first time after back-to-back tries against first-level rivals. He chased stakes-placed Tidewater home and got second last out; his closing kick might play better against these types. #2 Thunder Lad (6-1) also drops from first-level company and adds blinkers for the first time.
