Delaware Park picks and analysis: August 14, 2024
Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card from Delaware Park:
- DATE: August 14, 2024, 12:30 p.m. first post
- RACES ON CARD: 9
- CARRYOVERS: None
RACE 1
6. Little Hot Mess | Ran competitvely at this level and even above it on turf and has some decent dirt tries on the resume; first time for a tag on the main track |
3. Digital Currency | Likely to be favored on the drop down, and the figs say she should win; hasn’t made much impact on her races to date, though, except for bottom-level debut at Churchill |
2. Gettothstoryimdone | Really good effort in latest when kicking away from pace rivals before getting caught late; it’s tough to move maidens up the ladder and win, though |
RACE 2
5. Win Dixie Ronnie | Might be able to sit just off it and kick away as in most recent start |
8. Tweet Away Robin | Taking the blinks off seems to have done a world of good as this one broke sharply to the lead in last after five consecutive starts with trouble at the gate |
7. She’s Bulletproof | Wins on best and gave credible account of herself in latest versus better, but dropping down off the claim after a decent effort raises questions |
RACE 3
5. Speightful Sis | 2-for-2 at the trip and last out fourth-place finish in the Jameela flattered when place and show horses returned to be second and fourth in the Andy Guest at Colonial |
8. Anaita | Eye-catching rally in dominant score last out; undefeated on the lawn |
11. Princess Runaway | Probably won’t draw in but looms a threat if she does; outing in the Power by Far flattered when winner returned to win G3 Caress at the Spa |
6. A New Peace | Veteran mare runs pretty good races just about every time |

RACE 4
3. Cooler King | Miles the best in latest and others from that heat have run well in follow-ups; both main track tries are solid |
7. Sustenance | Possible speed of the speed wheels back on shortish rest after a good try versus better |
5. Estilo Magico | Two wins in three tries at the trip |
RACE 5
6. Sabi | Plummets from special weight company after two credible tries |
9. Mungo | Just missed versus similar in last and makes second start off the bench |
3. Buck Run | Pretty credible debut after getting clobbered leaving the gate and winner returned to win again |
RACING NOTES
- Three first-out runners graduated Saturday at Delaware. Chipotle, with Raul Mena up for trainer Mike Gorham, took the opener, a waiver maiden claimer for two-year-olds. Two races later, My Charm (Jevian Toledo/Brittany Russell) won a maiden special weight for two-year-old fillies easily. She’s a Bernardini filly. And in the nightcap, three-year-old California Sober (Kevin Gomez/Graham Motion) scored an 8-1 upset…
- The leading horse at the meet thus far (by wins) is Intrepid’s Legacy, who’s 4-for-4. He’s trained by Gary Capuano for Paul Fowler. Next is 3-for-3 Blaze On, trained by Karin Wagner for Wayward Farm…
RACE 6 – BLUE HEN STAKES
6. Caprice | Ultra-impressive debut when pressing fast pace and drawing away to win by a pole; trainer Lynch wins at a 26% clip with 2yo |
5. A Cozy Thing | Easy winner versus NJ-breds; rider Juarez in for the lone mount |
8. Onyx Ten | Sharp score in latest for a barn that never seems to lose |
RACE 7
1. Urban Star | Troubled debut outing was better than it looks; four from that heat have run one-two next out and shows a couple works in the interim |
5. Virtual | On the improve and winner of last was a $550k Frankel filly |
3. Lorraine | Presence of leading rider JRod seems like a pretty good endorsement for a runner whose two-turn tries are solid |
6. Sister Sola | Even effort with a trouble line in debut; rider Hernandez remains with this one rather than top choice |
RACE 8 – DOVER STAKES
7. Re Markably | Two strong outings to start his career, and in most recent, he was the only runner up on the pace early to be around late in a very good try |
2. It’s Hammertime | Super-impressive debut when drawing away eagerly for dominant win; hasn’t raced in over two months, and trainer has fretted about missed recent works, so caution probably advisable |
6. All the Hardways | Two strong efforts in the bank and proven ability to pass horses a plus in baby races where most want to go |
RACE 9
6. Ladida | Didn’t appear comfortable on sloppy going in last but then did something she’d never done before: pass a bunch of horses; added ground probably ok and this one could be sitting on a step forward |
5. Woke Up a Diva | Rallied to lead late before settling for second in most recent dirt try but hasn’t raced in two months |
1. Wicked Kitten | Very competitive with these but hard to endorse short odds on an 0-for-19 runner |
