RACE 1: CLAIMING $20,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)
10-7-9-3 (DIRT: 7-8-11-9)
We’ll cap off the Laurel Park summer season with a bang: a massive 13-race program greets us this afternoon. #10 Mo Caliente (4-1) makes his second start off the claim by Nolan Ramsey, who has enjoyed great success with his Maryland starters this year. He fug in gamely to break his maiden at Gulfstream Park two starts back, and now gets some class relief for his second start against winners. This is his first start in the Mid-Atlantic region, but he’s been here since early July, so he’s had time to acclimate. #7 Mike the Bomb (5-1) has shown speed and hung in there in his last two starts against similar. Last out, he sat the trip behind loose leader Landslide is Home (who also returns here), took advantage then that rival falters, and managed to hold on for third. With a slightly-better timed move, and perhaps a more honest pace dynamic, he can do some damage. #9 Homer Jones (8-1) ran a career-best brisnet figure of 86 in his last grass start at Parx two starts back, and looks for improvement third off the layoff after a dull try on the Presque Isle Downs synthetic.
RACE 2: MAIDEN CLAIMING $12,500, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 6 FURLONGS
6-5-7-4
#6 Right Quick (8-1) hasn’t run a bad one-turn race this year, and has run his best races going six furlongs or shorter. He should thrive here after going longer in his last few races. #5 Fierce Competition (7-2) ran a solid 60 on debut two starts ago, then might have left his race in the gate last out. He adds blinkers and will be a threat if he’s a bit more chill. #7 Little Cagefighter (5-2) showed speed and held well on grass last out, and should be a pace factor in his first try going shorter than a mile.
RACE 3: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)
1-2-4-5 (DIRT: 4-10-6-8)
#1 Oncourtcommentator (2-1) has shown tremendous late speed in her last two races, including a near-miss second in her first try against winners last out, and should thrive stretching out from a mile. #2 Parish Love (7-2) came from well behind to break her maiden on this track last October, and gets class relief after showing little in the Christiana Stakes last out. She’ll likely be rallying late with Oncourtcommentator, and has a similar amount of upside. #4 Viennese Waltz (12-1) has run in the 80s three times in a row on dirt, and has some grass promise in her pedigree, being a half-sister to three winners on this surface (even though her most famous brother, Cordmaker, did not win on it).
RACE 4: CLAIMING $12,500 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 MILE
6-1-4-5
#6 Amani’s Tiger (9-5) almost caught loose gate-to-wire winner Burton Way last out, but fell short by a nose. Nonetheless, it was a solid try for his first dirt start against winners. He’s the only one in the field to run at least a 76 in each of his last four dirt races. #1 Admit Nothing (5-1) made his first start off a 10-month layoff in that race, and was completely flat, which is understandable considering he hadn’t raced in so long. He ran figures of 79 and 81 towards the end of last year, and will be a contender if he can keep rounding back towards that form. #4 Papa Funny (10-1) ran respectable races on both dirt and grass towards the end of last year at Delaware Park, and is also eligible to improve second off a long break.
RACE 5: CLAIMING $30,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 5 1/2 FURLONGS (GRASS)
5-4-1-3 (DIRT: 9-8-4-5)
#5 Great Kisser (6-1) set the pace in and never looked back in her grass debut, winning as much the best with an impressive 80. She should once again be tough to catch. #4 P Money (3-1) goes fist off the claim by Jamie Ness, and finished a strong-closing fourth behind an odds-on winner in his local debut last out. #1 Better Luck (5-2) was flat after a wide trip against better at Saratoga last out, but came from close to the pace and just missed against similar two starts ago at Pimlico.
RACE 6: MAIDEN CLAIMING $30,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 6 FURLONGS
6-4-2-7
#6 Rapidity (2-1) rebounded to a career-best 77 last out when second behind favored winner This is Good, and now drops to this level on dirt for the first time. A repeat of his last race clears these. #4 Beach Cowboy (5-2) goes first off the claim by Kieron Magee and has improved significantly with each start. He lasted through pace pressure and got caught late last out in his first try for a tag. #2 Mat Matters (8-1) ships from Penn National for Bruce Kravets and adds blinkers. He ran a much-improved race last out when he chased the pace and held second against similar.
RACE 7: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)
6-2-1-5 (DIRT: 9-7-4-2)
#6 Mission North (5-2) finally broke though after a few promising tries with an impressive maiden win two starts back, then ran a credible fourth in his first try against winners at Aqueduct last out. He should thrive on the return to local foes. #2 Into It (7-2) fought hard to win at Aqueduct in his most recent try, in hi second start since returning east from California. He should get a nice trip near the leaders. #1 Elevated Game (9-2) has speed on the rail and will try to replicate recent gate-to-wire wins at Parx and Delaware.
RACE 8: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $20,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 7 FURLONGS
7-1A-3-2
#7 Mo Tough (7-2) was pressed on the pace last out and managed to hold second, hitting the exacta after getting pace pressure for the fourth race in a row. She’s likely to be a pace factor from the outside. #1A Sister Supream (2-1) sat the trip and won first off the Jamie Ness claim last out, and will take advantage if Mo Tough can’t last on the lead. #3 Levisa (5-1) doesn’t have a ceiling has high as some of the others, but she did win fist off a five-month layoff last out.
RACE 9: ALL BRANDY STAKES, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, MD-RESTRICTED, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)
11-8-6-4 (DIRT: 10-13-2-3)
#11 My Brazilian Girl (20-1) may be a maiden, but she’s already run some big efforts in her four-race career that are competitive with these. She ran an 86 when a credible sixth at huge odds in the Tepin Stakes two races ago, then lasted a long way on the pace at Ellis Park last out and held second with a 93. She doesn’t have the foundation of her rivals, but her natural ability might make up the difference. #8 Circle Home (6-1) closed from the clouds to lose the Jameela Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths, and now stretches back out around two turns from that six-furlong contest. She won her last two-turn start, against first-level foes, going away. #6 Next Episode (10-1) has won two in a row at Colonial Downs from just off the pace, and will be a factor here with the right trip.
RACE 10: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/16 MILES
8-2-4-3
#8 Harold’s Cloud (2-1) was claimed out of his last start at Churchill Downs by Anthony Farrior, and is now ready for his local debut. He lost early position after bad break last out and stood little chance from there, but rallied from just off the pace to win two weeks ago. #2 J D Factor (7-2) also dealt with early trouble when favored against similar at Parx last out, but ran some big races at Aqueduct in his prior two starts, including a runner-up finish in his first start against winners between a pair of next-out victors. #4 Galatians (10-1) has great late pace figures, and though he hasn’t won in a while, he should have enough punch in the lane to get a slice.
RACE 11: FIND STAKES, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, MD-RESTRICTED, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)
1-8-4-7 (DIRT: 2-3-6-1)
#1 Crabs N Beer (9-2) hasn’t been able to hang with second-level rivals in New York in his last few, but did win in this track earlier in the year, and was a game second in the Dinner Party Stakes next out. He’s always shown lots of potential, and should be able to master these. #8 Riccio (8-1) finished a solid third against Delaware-certified rivals last out, including Select Stakes champion Smithwick’s Spice, and has shown an affinity for this track. #4 Sky’s Not Falling (2-1) is probably at his best going shorter, but does pop up and win at two turns from time to time.
RACE 12: CLAIMING $12,500 (CONDITIONED), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/16 MILES
6-7-1A-4
#6 Law of the Jungle (7-2) consistently ran in the upper-70s for Jane Cibelli for most of the summer meet, and now goes first off the Anthony Farrior claim following a dull effort last out. A rebound to something close to his peak performance wins this. #7 Ascribe (9-5) drops from starter optional claiming level, and will try to turn things down on the front and have Jamie Ness end his summer meet on a winning note. #1A Inspired Irish (5-2) finally cleared his non-winners of two condition with a pace-stalking win going six panels at Colonial last out, and has run well around two turns in the past.
RACE 13: MAIDEN CLAIMING $20,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)
5-4-1-7 (DIRT: 5-9-4-2)
#5 Stow On the Wold (9-5) finished a solid, pace-chasing second at this level two starts back, in his first race in ten months, and should run even better against these third off the bench. #4 Dyna Point (9-2) has fallen victim to slow faces in her last two starts, but should have enough of a kick to get a share, if nothing else. #1 Rock Bullet (3-1) has declined a bit in his last few starts, but did close well for second against these last out and should be at home at this level. See you at the Fair!
