RACE 1: CLAIMING $20,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)
3-6-7-11
#3 Roja Redemption (10-1) finished a solid-closing third first off a six-month layoff, and first time in the Jack Fisher barn, last out at Colonial Downs. Fisher horses tends to move forward in their second start for him. #6 Sweet Travels (6-1) finally broke through at 11th asking last out, converting the trip and rocketing through when clear. He ran a career-best brisnet figure of 83 when fourth in his first try against winners in a tougher field than the one he’ll see here. While that race is a bit of an outlier compared to his other recent races, he’s still in ascending form and will be a threat with anything close. #7 Always Fun (6-1) has raced just five times, in contrast with many of these, who have had numerous chances against non-winners of two types. He broke his maiden on the pace two starts back, and should be sent for speed.
RACE 2: CLAIMING $30,000 (CONDITIONED), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 MILE
7-8-3-5
#7 War Master (6-1) was no threat first off an eight-month layoff at Timonium two starts back, but moved forward on grass next out, and could be in line to run a big race in his third start off the bench. He ran in the 80s twice as a 2-year-old last year. #8 Margie’s Fun Son (9-5) has burned a lot of money against these types and similar. He’s gone off at 9-5 or shorter in each of his last five starts, but has won only one of them. He’s consistently the fastest horse in his field, but it’s hard to take a short price on him. #3 Patient Capital (5-1) was flat around two turns last out, but should improve cutting back to a mile. He’s run in the 80s in each of his last three one-turn affairs.
RACE 3: MAIDEN CLAIMING $30,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)
2-5-6-3
#2 Primed to Go (8-5) drops in for a tag for the first time for the Colts Neck contingent. He’s been visually unimpressive against straight maidens in New York and New Jersey, but he’s also run in the 80 three times in his last four starts (the one time he didn’t was his first start in six months). Anything close to his prior races easily beats these. #5 Gold Aspen (2-1) makes his first start for Arnaud Delacour and looks like the main speed. If he gets a slow enough early pace, he could leave Primed to Go with too much to do. #6 Pietrelcina (6-1) has great closing speed, and is usually good for a minor share against these types.
RACE 4: CLAIMING $7,500 (CONDITIONED), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 MILE
5-6-2-1
#5 Mysisternancy (8-5) showed a new dimension at Timonium last out, when she came from just off the pace to beat similar types. She’s a serious threat whether she sets the pace or is close to it. #6 She’s a Lino (9-2) also has abundant early speed, but has not raced beyond six furlongs in recent times. Her figures at Penn National and Presque Isle Downs are competitive with these, and she’ll look to avoid getting caught in an early tussle with Mysisternancy. #2 Recognize Me (12-1) makes her first dirt start since May, following a string of tries on grass at Colonial and Delaware Park. While she showed speed on dirt, she tended to come from off the pace in her grass races. She’d likely take advantage if Mysisternancy and She’s a Lino duel each other into defeat.
RACE 5: MAIDEN CLAIMING $45,000, 2-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES, 6 FURLONGS
5-7-2-1
#5 Silver Trinket (8-5) looked very tough on paper doing into her debut, but was somewhat cold on the board and ended up second after setting the pace. She stays at this level and gets a jockey switch to Jevian Toledo. This $100,000 purchase by Hillwood Stable LLC (exempt from the claiming tag due to being a Maryland-bred) should take a step forward. Fellow Brittany Russell trainee #7 Institution (9-5) has put in a decent worktab at Fair Hill in preparation for her debut, but does not get the services of Russell’s second-in-command rider, Toledo, instead getting lower-stringer J.G. Torrealba in the saddle. That said, if she takes action at the windows, it’s worth noting. #2 On a Proud Note (6-1) has had a long, solid worktab for Mike Trombetta, and is a half-sister to a pair of 2-year-old winners.
RACE 6: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, MD-RESTRICTED, 5 1/2 FURLONGS (GRASS)
6-3-10-9
#6 Great Kisser (8-1) hasn’t trailed in either of his two grass starts. He’s getting his class test here, but as long as he runs back to either of his two wins, he’ll be very tough to catch. #3 Jolly Boss (4-1) chased a gate-to-wire winner and finished third last out at Colonial in his first start against winners. He might find herself in a similar situation against Great Kisser, but he should be able to at least outkick the others. #10 Great Idea (2-1) surged from off the pace to beat first-level foes going away last out. A big performance here will set him up nicely for the Maryland Million Turf Sprint.
RACE 7: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $20,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 5 1/2 FURLONGS
9-8-7-1
#9 Sheriff Ronnie (5-2) is one of two in here racing first off the claim by Tim Kreiser. He set an ambitious pace at this level last out, and managed to hold on to third, running at least an 85 for the third time in the last four starts. He should be sent for speed from the outside under new rider Arnaldo Bocachica, and if he keeps his current form, he’ll be tough to catch. #8 Group Hug (2-1) rallied late and just missed nailing Sheriff Ronnie for third in his last start. He was claimed out of that race by Jamie Ness, and should subsequently show further improvement. #7 Business Model (6-1) raced well at Aqueduct over the winter, and finished a respectable third first off a three-month layoff at Louisiana Downs for the Jonathan Wong barn. He then won on grass, and now comes back here for new trainer Jose Corrales.
RACE 8: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, MD-RESTRICTED, 1 1/16 MILES (GEASS)
6-14-2-8
We’ll likely see many of these in next month’s Maryland Million Ladies. #6 Juniper Juice (3-1) chased own a loose leader and won easily against open first-level foes last out, running a career-best 88. She’s improved with every start, and should stalk and pounce against this field. #14 Mosler’s Image (7-2) ran a pace-chasing third first off a five-month break last out, and was claimed out of that race by Claudio Gonzalez. She’s eligible to improve with a race under her belt. If nothing else, she’ll get a nice trip. #2 Momma’s Lino (4-1) overcame post 12 to work out a trip and get third at Delaware last out, running a career-best 84 in the process. She draws much better here and will be on or near the early pace.
RACE 9: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, MD-RESTRICTED, 7 FURLONGS
3-8-1-2
This is another contest full of Maryland Million prospects. The big question of this race is if #3 Doc Linkous (4-1) can duplicate his insanely impressive maiden win. He battled on the early pace with favored Beach Cowboy, then put him away and won by 6 1/2 lengths with a career-best 98. It’s more impressive considering he was one of two first-timers in the race. This is definitely a class test, but he’s shown that, at his peak, he’s good enough to hang with these. With a good performance, #8 Celtic Contender (9-5) will stamp himself as one to watch in the Maryland Million Sprint. He was a game third in the Concern Stakes in his most recent dirt start, and has run in the 90s in each of his last three starts on this surface. #1 Must Be Love (7-2) cuts back around one turn after finishing a chasing second last out at Delaware. His ceiling is a little bit below that of the contenders, but he’s still eligible to get a share with the right trip.
RACE 10: MAIDEN CLAIMING $20,000, 2-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES, 5 1/2 FURLONGS
4-5-3-8
#4 Remembering Lizzy (9-5) made decent ground late and grabbed second on debut at Timonium. Her two workouts since then weren’t that great, but as long as she doesn’t regress too much off that effort, she’ll beat these. #5 My Vanilla (4-1) ships down here after finishing well-beaten in three straight tries against much better at Saratoga. She showed some speed and faded in two of those starts, and she might find that she can carry it further against easier. #3 Need a Miracle (6-1) got some action at first asking at Timonium, and never recovered after a mild check in the early stages. She has room to improve here.
