Juba’s Parade marches to My Sister Pearl win
Juba’s Parade led late in last month’s West Virginia Roger Ramey Breeders Classic Distaff but ultimately had to settle for second. Saturday night, she was able to seal the deal.
Juba’s Parade parlayed a rail-skimming trip under jockey Wilfredo Santiago into a 1 1/2-length victory in the $75,000 My Sister Pearl Stakes for state-bred fillies and mares. Cavada runner-up Hessica and Distaff winner Change the World dead-heated for second, edging Barbers Point by a head. Running time for the 1 1/8 miles was 1:55.88 on a fast main track.
Barbers Point broke quickly from the farthest outside of the eight runners and soon established the front. Under jockey Angel Cruz, the Jeff Runco trainee ticked off a half-mile in 49.31 seconds and three quarters 1:15.03. By that point, her lead was just a half-length as Foxy Sista turned up the heat but was soon rebuffed.
Rounding the third and final turn, Juba’s Parade was able to save ground, while Hessica, with whom Juba’s Parade had raced in tandem most of the trip, was out in the three-path.
Juba’s Parade tipped two wide entering the lane and gradually inched clear of her rivals to the victory. Change the World, with Arnaldo Bocachica up for Runco, was last for the first half-mile but picked her way through traffic to dead-heat with Hessica for the place.
Juba’s Parade, off as the third choice, paid $10.60 to win. The exacta with Change the World paid $9.70 for a one-dollar wager, while the exacta with post time favorite Hessica paid $5.80.
Juba’s Parade, a four-year-old filly by Juba, was bred in West Virginia by Taylor Mountain Farm. She is trained by Kristy Petty for her own KP Racing Stables LLC.
The win was Juba’s Parade’s seventh and first in stakes company from 25 starts. She has earned $228,008.
