Charles Town to kick off final 2024 racing week
Charles Town Races kicks off its final week of racing for 2024 Dec. 11 with a nine-race card. Post time is 7:00 p.m.
The track will also play host to nine races Thursday and Friday nights, with Saturday’s program to be drawn Wednesday.
Wednesday’s featured allowance is supported by a trio of maiden special weight events, two for older runners and one for juveniles. The baby race, carded as the third, has a field of 10 headed by Maryland shipper Final Offer; the Uncle Lino gelding, 5-2 on the morning line, most recently was second against similar. Ederik Robles will ride for Troy Singh.
The first race of the night is a maiden special weight for state-breds going seven furlongs. Big Joe B, a homebred for trainer Michael Atkins, is the 2-1 morning line favorite and will have Denis Araujo up.
The last of three maiden specials goes as the fifth race, and it’s for three-year-olds and up. Main Line Cipher, cross-entered here and at Mahoning Valley, is the 9-5 morning line favorite for owner-trainer Anthony Farrior. Arnaldo Bocachica is named.
In the day’s featured 4 ½-furlong allowance, Pork Chop Pete is the overwhelming 3-5 choice on the morning line. Trained by Javier Contreras for O’Sullivan Farms LLC and Alex Kazdan, Pork Chop Pete has been first or second in nine of 10 career outings and arrives on a two-race win streak. Juan Nunez will ride.
In Thursday’s 6 ½-furlong allowance feature for fillies and mares, Petty Perfect (9-5) and What’shername (2-1) will square off. The former, a homebred for trainer Kristy Petty, has won two straight and three of 11 overall and will have Darius Thorpe up. The latter, a half-sister to millionaire Runnin’toluvya, is a homebred for trainer Leslie Cromer and will have Juan Nunez in the irons. She has been worse than third just once in eight career starts.
Friday’s card is highlighted by three allowance races. Interesting runners include the Ollie Figgins-trained King Kontie, set to make his first start of the year at his home track in the sixth, and newly minted millionaire Muad’dib in the eighth.
Every race on Friday’s card has at least 10 runners entered.
