Janezic: 2024 in photos
Our photographer Allison Janezic turned up in lots of places around the Mid-Atlantic this past year. From the Preakness to the Charles Town Classic, from the Cotillion to the Haskell, she made the rounds.
Here’s what she saw in the year in photos.
Jockey Jose Ortiz was all smiles (and flowers) after Honor D Lady won the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap.
Xavier Perez looked to the heavens after Do It for Michael won the Maryland Million Nursery.
Mystik Dan surveys the scene at Pimlico, while onlookers check him out. The Kentucky Derby winner would go on to finish second in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes behind Seize the Grey.
Charles Town Oaks (G2) winner Mystic Lake gets a smooch after winning the richest sprint in the country for 3-year-old fillies.
Skippylongstocking notched his second consecutive win in the G2 Charles Town Classic. He is the third horse to win consecutive runnings of the $1 million test.
War Like Goddess was raring to go before the Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (G3) at Delaware Park, and that she did, winning by one length.
Fan favorite Witty won twice in 2024, with his top score coming in the King T. Leatherbury Stakes at Laurel Park.
Thorpedo Anna was all that all year long, including when she won the G1 Cotillion at Parx.
Victor Carrasco surveyed his kingdom. Carrasco won 74 races in 2024 and has 1,327 wins in his career.
Octogenarian D. Wayne Lukas (right) was up to his old tricks in 2024, conditioning Seize the Grey (left) to a win in the Preakness, Lukas’s seventh Preakness victory.
Jockey Jaime Torres exulted after Seize the Grey seized the day to win the Preakness.

Post Time was perhaps the top Maryland-bred and Maryland-based runner in 2024, winning four times, twice in graded company, and finishing second in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile for trainer Brittany Russell, regular pilot Sheldon Russell, and owner Hillwood Stable (Ellen Charles).
Kaymarie Kreidel and Wolftrap were home for the holidays.
