Parx: Burner Account stuns in Main Line

Parx Racing kicked off its 2025 stakes calendar with a pair of $75,000 events, both contested at 1 1/16 miles: the City of Brotherly Love Stakes for three-year-olds and the Main Line Stakes for sophomore fillies. Each race delivered its share of drama, including an upset victory in the filly division and a determined stretch duel in the boys’ contest.

In the Main Line Stakes, longshot Burner Account stunned the field at odds of 23-1 with a front-running tour de force. Under jockey Anthony Salgado, the filly set unhurried fractions of 50.49 seconds for the half-mile and 1:16.46 for three-quarters while maintaining a clear lead. Turning for home, she found another gear and powered away to score by nearly six lengths, stopping the clock in 1:53.95.

Beautiful Blome rallied to secure second, while Maximus Angelicus settled for third. Favored Hollywood Beauty, sent off at 3-5, faded to fourth.

Trained by Miguel Rodriguez for Holiday Luck Racing, the Minnesota-bred Burner Account notched her first stakes victory and third career win from six starts. Previously a claimer, she proved her mettle against tougher company, pushing her earnings past $90,000. Bettors who backed the upset were rewarded handsomely, as Burner Account paid $48.00 to win.

The City of Brotherly Love Stakes saw Pennsylvania-bred Baby Dukes fend off a persistent challenge to secure his first stakes victory.

Piloted by Eliseo Ruiz, Baby Dukes dictated the pace early, clocking a half-mile in 49.16 seconds and three-quarters in 1:15.17 with Right Wing Runner tracking closely. That rival appeared to seize command in the stretch, momentarily putting a head in front, but Baby Dukes dug deep and battled back to prevail by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.71. Gun Trader rounded out the trifecta, while Global Steve and McAfee were scratched.

Baby Dukes, trained by Butch Reid for Cash Is King LLC and LC Racing LLC, had placed in three consecutive stakes races to close out his juvenile campaign. With this breakthrough victory, his record now stands at three wins from seven starts, and his earnings have surpassed $130,000.

The wagering public had faith in the improving colt, and he delivered as the post-time favorite, returning $4.60 to win.
