Preakness Festival events announced

Maryland First Lady Dawn Moore, the Preakness Festival 150 Committee, and the Sport & Entertainment Corporation of Maryland have announced the inaugural Preakness Festival, a weeklong celebration leading up to the 150th Preakness Stakes. The festival will feature a concert, a family-friendly festival in Park Heights, and a golf tournament, transforming Maryland into a hub of culture, entertainment, and community engagement.

“The Preakness Festival is not just about honoring a storied tradition, it’s about building an inclusive future,” said Maryland First Lady Dawn Moore. “Featuring a series of events taking place across our great state, this festival is an invitation for all Marylanders to take part in something truly special.

Festival Highlights:

  • May 10George “Spider” Anderson Music & Arts Festival (Park Heights, Baltimore) – Honoring the first Black jockey to win the Preakness, this free event includes horseback riding, live music, and family activities.
  • May 11Maryland Horse Farm Tour – A free, statewide experience showcasing Maryland’s equine heritage.
  • May 12Governor’s Open Golf Tournament (Baltimore Country Club) – A premier ticketed golf event for business and community leaders.
  • May 14 – Magic of Maryland Music Celebration (Pier Six Pavilion) – A waterfront concert featuring D-Nice & Friends and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
  • May 15Government House Festival Fundraiser (Annapolis) – An exclusive philanthropic evening supporting Maryland community initiatives.

The festival will also feature art exhibitions, Mother’s Day at the Races, and events supporting local businesses, workforce development, and tourism.

“Preakness is not just about a race – it’s about believing in Baltimore again,” said Gov. Wes Moore. “And this year, we’re investing in winners on and off the racetrack.”

The Preakness Festival is supported by public-private partnerships, including the Maryland Lottery, Exelon, Brown Advisory, and Kaiser Permanente. With Pimlico Race Course now under state ownership and set for major renovations, the festival marks a new era for Maryland horse racing and its broader economic impact.
