Laurel Park took a one-weekend hiatus, as racing briefly shifted to Colonial Downs for that track’s Virginia Derby mini-meet, with American Promise dazzling in a dominant victory. Now we’re back at Laurel for the last few weeks of its winter stand, to be followed immediately by its spring meet, which kicks off April 4.

Why are these different meets? No idea.

Anyway, here are the jockey and trainer stats and standings as we hit the winter meet’s homestretch.

JOCKEY TOP 10 WINS

Jaime Rodriguez has steadily increased his advantage in wins and is virtually guaranteed the meet title at this point…Three riders are in the mix for second, with JG Torrealba and Sheldon Russell tied with 16 apiece, while Raul Mena lurks two wins behind… One rider has made 10 or more starts without a win at the meet…

JOCKEY TOP 10 PERCENTAGE OF PURSE EARNED

Forest Boyce, who won with her only starter the final weekend of racing at Laurel before the short break, has moved into first in percentage of purse money earned, narrowly ahead of Sheldon Russell, as that pair has traded the lead back and forth in recent weeks… While there’s been some shuffling of the order, the riders who comprise the top 10 are the same as the prior week… 11 riders are pulling in less than 10% of available purse money…

JOCKEY TOP 10 BY ADDED WINS

Raul Mena’s two wins in the last racing weekend at Laurel included 22-1 Hot Stott, helping him increase his edge in added wins, comparing the rider’s actual wins to what the odds of their mounts would have predicted… Forest Boyce remains in second and well clear of the rest… The range of all riders is 5.70 to (-6.09)…

TRAINERS TOP 10 BY WINS

The tussle between Brittany Russell and Jamie Ness continues, and they are tied atop the standings with 19 wins apiece, though Russell has done so in considerably fewer races… Kieron Magee went 4-for-8 the final weekend of Laurel racing to jump into third overall… Hugh McMahon went 2-for-3 that same weekend… 11 trainers have made at least seven starts and are winless at the meet…

TRAINERS TOP 10 BY PERCENTAGE OF PURSE EARNED

Four trainers in the top 10 by wins appear on this list, as well, including the leading duo… Henry Walters, with two stakes wins at the meet from Barbadian Runner, remains atop the list… With a stakes win over the most recent weekend, John Salzman, Jr. moves into the top 10 by percent of purse money earned… Seven trainers have made at least seven starts and amassed less than five percent of available purse money…

TRAINER TOP 10 BY ADDED WINS

Hugh McMahon’s 2-for-3 weekend has him moving up into second in added wins, comparing his actual number of wins to what the odds of his runners would have predicted… Michael Gorham remains comfortably in first… The bottom six of the top 10 are all new this week… The range of all trainers is 3.46 to (-2.53)…
