We catch up on the latest jockey and trainer statistics from Charles Town Races. Who’s hot (and not)?

We break it down: total wins, percentage of purse money earned, added wins, and, new this week, wins in most recent 50 starts (jockeys) or 25 starts (trainers).

The numbers:

JOCKEY TOP 10 WINS

During a racing week in which many of the leaders were relatively quiet, Angel Cruz had a terrific week. Cruz was 2-for-3 on Friday and 4-for-5 on Saturday, completing a 6-for-8 weekend that saw him jump into fourth by wins… Victor Rodriguez went 3-for-7, all of his wins coming on Friday… Five riders have made 10 or more starts and are winless at the meet…

JOCKEY TOP 10 PERCENTAGE OF PURSE EARNED

With his big week, Cruz jumped from sixth to third in percentage of purse earned… Carlos Lopez, with no local starts since March 1, remains atop this list, narrowly ahead of Arnaldo Bocachica, who went 1-for-11 during the week… Victor Rodriguez enters the top 10 at number nine… Four riders have made at least 10 local starts and accrued less than five percent of available purse money in their starts…

JOCKEY TOP 10 BY ADDED WINS

With his big week, Angel Cruz jumped from seventh to first in added wins, comparing the rider’s actual wins to the number his or her mounts’ odds would have predicted… He has a slight edge on Victor Rodriguez, and they are well clear of the rest… Christian Hiraldo, whose three winners included horses off at 6-1 and 8-1, enters the top 10 at number 7… The full range of added wins is from 6.00 to (-9.28)…

JOCKEY TOP 10 BY WINS IN THEIR LAST 50 STARTS

This simply looks at the number of wins each jockey has posted in his or her last 50 starts… 21 riders qualify, having made at least 50 starts at the meet…

TRAINERS TOP 10 BY WINS

Ronney Brown won twice during the week to extend his lead in the wins standings over Anthony Farrior… Jeff Runco continued his heater, going 2-for-3 during the week… Mike Jones, Jr. won four times during a busy, 17-start week… Manolo Mangual got his sixth win of the year to move into the top 10 (which is actually 11, given a three-way tie for the bottom two spots)… Twenty-seven trainers have made at least seven starts at the meet and are winless…

TRAINERS TOP 10 BY PERCENTAGE OF PURSE EARNED

Three trainers among the top 10 by wins — Anthony Farrior, Jeff Runco, and Kristy Gazzier — are also in the top 10 in percentage of purse earned, with most on this list thriving with relatively few starts… Farrior and Runco both have finished in the money about 58% of the time, while Gazzier has been in the money in 19 of 23 starts (83%)… At the other end of the spectrum are 18 trainers currently pulling in less than 5% of available purse money…

TRAINER TOP 10 BY ADDED WINS

While Runco, Brown, and Michael Atkins remain atop the list, fourth and fifth are both moving up, with Joan Reynolds (1-for-1 during the week) and Manolo Mangual (1-for-4) moving into the top five in added wins, comparing the trainer’s actual wins to the number his or her runners’ odds would have predicted… Top three are identical to last week… The range for all trainers is 7.77 to (-6.20)…

TRAINER TOP 10 BY WINS IN THEIR LAST 25 STARTS

This simply looks at the number of wins each trainer has posted in his or her last 25 starts… 23 trainers have made at least 25 starts at the meet…
