Disco Ebo returns in competitive Primonetta
Saturday’s $100,000 Primonetta Stakes, a six-furlong dash featuring a competitive group of fillies and mares aged three and up, is among the Laurel Park features. This field combines stakes-tested veterans, sharp allowance winners, and a few intriguing comeback stories.
Admiral Hopper (#3), trained by Justin Nixon and ridden by Weston Hamilton, returns to the dirt for the first time since 2021 after a seventh-place finish in the Lightning City Stakes on turf. With good form on synthetic, if she takes to the surface switch, Admiral Hopper could surprise at a price.
Tipple (#7) arrives in sharp form for trainer Linda Rice, with Jose Lezcano slated to travel to Maryland to retain the mount. She arrives with back-to-back victories. Most recently, she scored in an allowance at Aqueduct. With a ship-in jockey staying aboard, connections clearly like her chances in this spot.
Firstlady Rosalynn (#4) brings local appeal under trainer Brittany Russell—one of Maryland’s top conditioners. She comes off a dominant win in an allowance at Colonial Downs and will be ridden by Jevian Toledo. Her barn’s high strike rate at Laurel and her improving form could elevate her chances in this competitive field.
Speedy mare Disco Ebo (#6), a multiple stakes winner, will be saddled by Robert E. Reid Jr. and partnered with Mychel Sanchez. She exits a third-place finish in the Correction Stakes and is the defending champ in this event. Always a danger on the front end, expect Disco Ebo to be part of the early pace battle.
With no shortage of front-running talent and capable closers, the Primonetta Stakes shapes up as a fast and fascinating sprint that could go down to the wire.
