Jockey Forest Boyce suffered injuries after being unseated by her mount as the horses entered the track for Sunday’s first race at Laurel Park.

First-time starter Z Bogdan reared up, dislodged Boyce, and fell on top of the jockey, who was able to move her extremities while prone on the track.

Boyce was placed in an ambulance and then helicoptered to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland.

“Forest fell off the horse, the horse flipped on her, and she sustained a lower-body injury. She was conscious,” said on-track physician Dr. Christian Glaser.

“She can feel everything, everything’s moving, but she’s in a lot of pain,” said Boyce’s agent, Jay Burtis. “Nothing is broken,” Burtis added in a later text message. “She is really sore [and needs] some rest. [It sounds] like [a] day-to-day situation, according to the doctor.”

Boyce, 40, is a mainstay on the Maryland circuit. She won the summer and fall riding titles at Laurel Park in 2010 and has captured 1,063 races throughout her career. Her mounts have earned $38,342,853 in purse money.
